Background of the Study:
Knowledge sharing is integral to academic development and institutional growth, and open access repositories have emerged as crucial platforms for facilitating this exchange. At Federal Polytechnic, Damaturu, Yobe State, these repositories enable lecturers to share research findings, conference papers, and academic articles freely with colleagues locally and internationally (Usman, 2023). Such repositories promote a culture of collaboration and continuous learning, as lecturers can access the latest advancements in their fields without financial barriers. Moreover, the ease of access enhances interdisciplinary research and fosters environments where knowledge is disseminated promptly, contributing to professional development and institutional prestige. However, challenges related to user engagement, technological infrastructure, and digital literacy can affect the efficacy of these repositories. This study examines the role of open access repositories in promoting knowledge sharing, addressing how they can enhance communication and collaboration among polytechnic lecturers while identifying areas that require improvement (Aminu, 2024).

Statement of the Problem:
Despite the potential benefits, lecturers at Federal Polytechnic, Damaturu face challenges in maximizing the advantages of open access repositories. Limited technical support, inadequate training on repository usage, and inconsistent maintenance reduce their effectiveness as tools for knowledge sharing. These obstacles hinder optimal collaboration and restrict the visibility of scholarly work. The study aims to investigate these challenges and propose strategies to enhance repository utilization, thereby improving the overall knowledge-sharing culture (Ibekwe, 2023).

Objectives of the Study:

To evaluate the role of open access repositories in promoting knowledge sharing.

To identify challenges that hinder their effective use among lecturers.

To recommend strategies for improving repository engagement.

Research Questions:

How do open access repositories enhance knowledge sharing among lecturers?

What challenges restrict their effective use?

What strategies can improve their functionality?

Significance of the Study:
The study highlights the importance of open access repositories as a driver of academic collaboration among polytechnic lecturers. The findings will inform policies and training programs to improve repository usage, thereby enhancing research dissemination and institutional growth (Oche, 2024).

Scope and limitations of the study:
The study is limited to polytechnic lecturers at Federal Polytechnic, Damaturu, Yobe State, and does not extend to other academic groups or institutions.

Definitions of Terms:

Open Access Repositories: Digital platforms that archive and disseminate academic research.

Knowledge Sharing: The exchange of ideas and information among academics.

Polytechnic Lecturers: Educators and researchers in polytechnic institutions.
